HABLA FAQ

Most of the answers to these questions can be found in the "Constitution and By Laws Link". However, these are some frequently asked questions that owners and potential owners have asked me about HABLA. If you have a question please submit it to the Commissioner jdupree@optonline.net.  If you would like to visit our main page please go to http://rollingweb.com/habla/

Q. How come I don’t have highlights?
A. The files are much too large to post to the site. With highlights the zip would be over 4 megabytes.

Q. How do I become an owner for a HABLA team?
A. Fill in the form on the
Join HABLA link. Your request will be replied to in most cases within 24 hours.

Q. How often do you simulate games?
A. We simulate three times per week. Each simulation is "usually" one week of game time. When there are natural breaks in the season, "All Star Game", "Amateur Draft", etc. we will either add a few games or run a mini-sim.

Q. How do I change my lineups and team moves?
A. The preferred method is to use the print lineup command from the "Team Roster". This is also true about roster moves. Print out the commands from the "Team News" menu.

Q. How often should I send in team moves?
A. This is up to you as the owner of the team. You are expected to make all needed moves in the event of injuries. I will put players on the Disabled list that are injured for more than one week, and make an appropriate substitution. You are expected to reactivate healed players. Failure to submit appropriate lineups for a prolonged period, two weeks or more may result in your team being given to a new owner.

Q. What if I have to go on vacation, or have other commitments that preclude me from making moves?
A. Of course we all have events that will make us miss time. A courtesy note to all owners or at least the commissioner is expected if you will be away for more than a week. If you expect to be gone for a prolonged time you may ask that your team be appointed a "guardian" owner to make routine moves for your team. This guardian will not be able to make trades, release players or sign any new players.

Q. Do I need the game to be an owner?
A. While having BBPro98 on your PC is MOST helpful it is not required. However, you will find that your enjoyment is greatly enhanced by owning the game.

Q. How do I sign free agents and make trades?
A. You’ll need to go to the "
Submit Trade" link and fill in the form accurately. Then submit the form to the Trade Chair. The same is true for signing Free Agents. Make sure you have room on your roster to accomplish moves as they will not be processed until your teams roster is properly made.

Q. How do I participate in Drafts?
A. You should either send in a list or attend the draft live. Please make sure that you send in lists. If you fail to send in a list your first pick will be chosen for you, however, if you habitually miss the drafts, and fail to protect your
potential free agents you will be dismissed. When sending in draft choices please make sure that you make the needed roster moves to open up space for new players.

Q. How much time a week will I need to spend?
A. On the average you will need to devote approximately 3 hours per week to successfully run your team.

Q. How do I load up a current archive?
A. You will need to Download the zip of the archive, and then unzip the archive into your BBPro98 subdirectory. Then you will need to restore the archive using the BBPro archive utility. We use PKUNZIP, but WINZIP should also work fine.

Q. How often is the site updated?
A. Routinely, the site is fully updated each simulation. Some files are not updated every game, Draft orders, Potential Free Agents. These are updated monthly.

Q. Can I become more involved?
A. Yes. We are always looking for owners to be more active, as this makes the league more enjoyable, and more competitive. We periodically will have HABLA "Hot Stove" nights when we talk about the league or baseball or whatever! We also have a newsletter, and contributions are always welcome. If you wish to make press releases you may send them to
The Inside Pitch Link. Also, you are encouraged to make a website for your team. I will link it up to the main page through our Individual Team Pages. We also have a bulletin board for your information about the league.

Q.How long does it take to be an owner if I am on the waiting list?
A. At most times I have anywhere from 5 to 10 potential owners. When I have an opening I will send out an email to all on that list. If they do not reply they are removed from the list. We do experience some turnover, but also have a good core group of owners.

Q. Will the league be expanding?
A. Currently, we run a twenty eight team league. The problems with the BBPRO game engine preclude us from expanding to 30 teams until there is a reliable utility for that. Then the league would have to approve the switch to 30 teams.

Q. I’ve noticed some "Old Timers" in the game and some fictional players, why are they there?
A. We go through seasons faster than real life baseball, so our pool of active players and prospects are rapidly depleted. The "Old Timers" are there for that reason. The fictional players are there because the game created them. IF you have a real life CURRENT player you would like added to the game you may change a FICTIONAL player who matches his abilities. Just send in his name and I’ll fix it. We now only add real life players or prospects or retired players.

Any more questions? Please send them in.
